Hi Warrior Bill,
Today I went to the Shire Hall to see what they have on display as far as the Staffordshire Hoard goes and with all that gold and silver there were some replicas of helmets, swords, and shields.
What struck me was how similar the designs for these were to the ones I have seen on the Alliance site.
I suppose that if something works then why change it? This size and shape of shield protects Spartan Warriors, so more than a millenium later in Mercia (central England), which covers Stafford and so it's county Staffordshire, a Warrior used the same type of shield, wore a helmet the same shape, and wielded a sword that looked much the same; the two Warriors could have met on the battlefield and not realised that they had a large gap in time and space. I just worked it out, one Warrior from south Greece and the other 1200 years later from the Kingdom of Mercia, and yet so similar in appearance. What this tells me is that Warriors, that is true WARRIORS, never change and that is not just their arms and armour but most importantly their principles of manly virtue, of true masculinity.
Unlike the Staffordshire Hoard, instead of burying these we should proudly display them: "Yes I am a Warrior, and I like to be with other real Warriors, in every way I can."

The masculinity of men flows from their group. Their natural masculinity combines and gets manifold when masculine men unite. The camaraderie, mutual understanding, support, learning the ways of the world as a male, fighting together, dealing with roughs and toughs of life together -- they all help to develop the natural masculinity that exists within them.
They had many words for struggle and combat and fighting and strife -- maches, eris, hamilla, agon, polemos, ares -- and athlos, the word from which we derive our word "athlete."
In Greece, athletai could be rivals on the playing field or the battlefield.
